About the Artist

IMG_4249 4.1.jpg

Mariann Villadsen is a contemporary artist who expresses herself through vibrant colors.  Throughout her career she has experimented with simple colorful and abstract paintings into more complex landscape, figures and portraits.

Initially working as a kindergarten pedagogue, her observations on how children express themselves, through drawing and painting was what initially inspired Mariann Villadsen to begin her career as an expressionist artist.

In recent years Mariann has focused on the questions of who we are, where we are and where we are going, in the physical, psychological and virtual space. She expresses this through her kubist style, where she lets fragmented characters take center stage.

Mariann does not sketch her drawings in advance, rather improvising, using her imagination and letting her experiences and observations come to life through her paintings.

In her own words, Mariann does not want to work out of limitations, guidelines or rules. She has her own values as a painter, the rest is up to the Audience.
